What an evening was had by all at our Colour Run fundraiser on Friday night! With the weather nice and sunny, a well set out obstacle course and hundreds of excited students, teachers and families, Ruskin Park families ran, were covered in powders of all the colours of the rainbow and were wet by super soakers!
There was plenty of food and drink to be purchased and also performances by one of our local dance schools.
The event would not have been possible without the hard work and generosity of our Parent and Friends team, our enthusiastic staff and the support of our wonderful parents!
Thank you all for an incredibly successful event!
At the end of last term, the culmination of a terms homework on centred around the Year 5/6 integrated unit was displayed for the community to see. An open morning where students presented their work to friends, family and other classes within the school was a successful way to display their learning through a variety of mediums. Digital technology was a stand out with Powerpoints, games and traveling roadshows proving popular. Below is a summary from Caitlyn in 6P on the task:
This morning the Grade 5/6’s had an exhibition to display the task they completed for their homework which they had been working on all term. This terms topic was Geography. Everyone had to choose a country. The Grade 6s had to choose a non-English speaking country and they couldn’t choose Japan. The Grade 5s could choose any country except for Japan. The country that I chose was India. I made a poster for the first task answering several questions, a board game travelling through some cities for the second task and a slide show about the traditional meal I made and how to say certain sayings in three of India’s most popular languages for the third task. This morning was a very interesting and fun way to see how all of the other people’s work was presented. By Caitlin
We look forward to seeing what wonderful examples of high quality and engaging learning tasks are completed this term!
Last night two of our Grade six student’s represented our school at the annual Croydon Rotary Primary School Speech Competition held at Melba College. In total there were twelve participants from six local schools, who I am sure went through as rigorous a progress as our students did just to make it there. Chloe and Rianha, having won the school competition, prepared a brand new speech for the night from a specific list of topics given to them. The quality, depth and delivery of their speeches was phenomenal with comments such as “That was magic” being heard from the audience.
The final result saw both girls placing in the top three with Chloe finishing third and Rianha coming first. Next step for Rianha is the regional competition in November.
Well done girls- you have definitely made our school proud!
This morning we held our literacy transition session for 2019 Foundation students where the current teachers read and taught the students about “The Rainbow Fish”, a much loved children’s book by both students and teachers. After listening and responding to key elements of the text, the students created their own “Rainbow Fish.”
Whilst the students were engaged in their learning, those adults who brought the students for the session, went away for morning tea and the opportunity to get to know others whose children will be sharing the same learning journey as their own.
The numbers and energy was outstanding and we look forward to working with all in the future!
Today we have had a wonderful celebration of our youngest students reaching their 100th day of school. A wide variety of activities centred around the milestone have occurred and there are incredibly wide smiles on the faces of both students and teachers. The effort of all involved; including the parents with student t-shirts has been amazing as the community has really come together to celebrate!
